Curriculum & Grading
Gradings from one belt rank to another are held at the end of the fall, winter and summer sessions. However, the senseis are watching and grading students throughout the entire semester.
Students must attend at least 80% of the classes in order to be eligible for grading.
As students progress from white to yellow to orange and beyond, the senseis will be looking for greater and greater attention to detail. Once students reach the green belt level and above, they must remain at that rank for a minimum of three semesters (in the kids classes) or two semesters (in the adult classes). Remember these are minimums and not everyone will advance at the same rate.
Senseis want to make sure that students are ready to compete in a ring with other similar ranks before they are graded to the next belt.
In order to be eligible to be graded to a black belt, students must meet the minimum requirements of the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation and be recommended by their sensei.
